Lunch in La Jolla

One of the best parts of van life is being able to move on the fly anywhere, anytime you want. If you don’t like your current situation, just pick up and go find a better place. This morning I felt like exploring the Coast Highway in San Diego. So I took a drive down to a familiar place, La Jolla Cove, to set up for lunch on the beach. This town hasn’t changed much, if at all, since I used to come here as a kid to visit my Great Aunt who lived in the hills just above the village.

Some of my favorite memories are snorkeling in the aqua-blue water and getting up close and personal with the seals and sea lions here. I had a memorable encounter once when a sea lion approached me in the water and went completely vertical, head towards the surface, and then extended his neck as if he wanted me to give him a scratch. I obliged and then he went on his merry way.

La Jolla, CA

It still feels like a dream when I think about it. One of those magical moments in life you never expect. Coming back here takes me right back to that time. Picnicking in the park, snorkeling all day, finding a sand dollar on the beach. Sometimes it feels like it’s harder and harder to be in the moment and revel in these small, but wonderful things in life. Today, I was back in one of those moments and it was great.
